The United States has imposed anti dumping duty on imports of aluminum foil from China, thus escalating the tension between the two countries when it comes to matters of trade and international politics.
Based on a petition by the Aluminium Association Trade Enforcement Working Group, representing U.S. producers, the Commerce Department imposed preliminary import duties ranging from 96.81%to 162.24% on the ground that the goods were being sold at an unfairly low price to the detriment of domestic players in the US markets.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce responded by stating that the United States ignored WTO norms, insisting that Washington to abide by international obligations and that China would “take necessary” actions to protect the interests of Chinese companies rights to resolve disputes under the WTO regime.. It further stated “It not only hurts the interests of Chinese companies but also dents the seriousness and authority of multilateral rules.”
