A complaint was made by Australia against Canada at the World Trade Organisation because of the Canadian government’s policies on wine that broke certain WTO legislations. A similar complaint was lodged by the USA against the Canadian province of British Columbia in October which is now expanded by Australia also complaining against Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia and the Canadian government. Australia contended that Canada has enforced a number of taxes, duties, product mark-ups and other policies that either directly or indirectly is against imported wine. Now, 60 days will be given to Canada to settle this dispute with Australia under the WTO rules. After that Australia could ask the WTO to adjudicate, with a view to forcing Canada to change its laws or risk trade sanctions
