In a bid to protect domestic players in the steel industry, India has imposed an anti dumping duty for a duration of 5 years against steel products from China and the European Union based on the recommendations by the Directorate General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD).
DGAD found that certain steel products were exported to India at lower-than-normal value which resulted in the domestic industry players facing ‘material injury’.Anti dumping duty is a measure to curb the influx of cheap imports and restore fairness and equity in the market. The multilateral WTO regime facilitates the imposition of such duties.
The anti-dumping duty shall be effective for a period of 5 years starting from January 11th, 2017.
